Blog: All She Has Left is Lies

Statement

Over the past several months, my opponent has been telling lies to voters and to the media about me. I have repeatedly offered her a $2400 donation--the maximum--if she can prove even one of her claims. She has yet to take up the offer--because she's lying.

Let's review the lies that Jan Schakowsky has been telling people about me: that I criticize her for supporting a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (July 8, 2010); that I "enthusiastically supported" the Iraq War (October 17, 2010); and that I want to take retirees' Social Security benefits and gamble them away on Wall Street (October 23, 2010).

I suspect she's also responsible for planting the false claim that I have been untruthful about her record on Israel (Sun-Times), which I haven't, or that I treat people who disagree with me with disdain (Chicago Tribune), which I don't. In fact, I have welcomed Schakowsky's supporters to my town hall meetings and let them speak--and she knows it, because her campaign manager has been there himself on several occasions.

Now she's spreading a false rumor that a member of my staff "gave her the finger" at the Skokie Chamber of Commerce last week. That is absolutely untrue--and ironic, coming from someone whose campaign manager said that people who opposed the Ground Zero Mosque were "f**king dumba**es." It's also just as absurd as her claim that she "won" the Protect Our Heritage forum last week--right before the sponsoring organization decided to endorse me instead of her.

Again and again, we've seen Schakowsky break the rules whenever and wherever she can--whether it's violating House ethics rules by helping her political contributors with their delinquent loans, handing out propaganda at the League of Women Voters forum, trying to enter a polling place without intending to vote, or violating the agreed-upon format of the Protect Our Heritage forum by using her time to slam her opponent.

Schakowsky's mode of campaigning is to lie and cheat--until she's caught, or faces serious opposition. We even caught one of her supporters stealing lawn signs yesterday. I'm proud that our campaign is standing up to her, and exposing her tactics for all to see.

This is who represents us in Washington--can we tolerate it any longer?
